Eagles Qualify first-ever CHAN

Nigeria have qualified for their first-ever
CHAN even though they fell 2-0 to hosts
Cote d'Ivoire in a return leg clash in Abidjan
on Saturday.

The Eagles won the first encounter 4-1 in
Kaduna and thus qualified 4-3 on
aggregate to the championship proper to
be staged by South Africa next year.
On Saturday in Abidjan, Nigeria fell behind
twice after 25 minutes. The home team
took the lead after five minutes when
Séwé Sport striker Kévin Zougoula found
target off a corner kick.

The Elephants continued to press for more
goals and were rewarded in the 25th
minuts when Zougoula was fouled inside
the box and the Sewe striker doubled the
lead from the spot.

In the 58th minute, Cheick Moukoro came
close to compounding the visitors' woes
but his effort off a corner crashed against
the post.

Kano Pillars playmaker Rabiu Ali fired a
shot at the Ivorian goal in the 69th minute,
but it was deflected for a corner by
Sangare.
Nigeria skipper Chigozie Agbim then
denied ASEC midfielder Hugues Zagbayou
as he saved his powerful strike.

The Eagles came close to pulling a goal back
with
a 25-metre free-kick but somehow it
failed to hit target.

In another CHAN qualifier, Uganda Cranes
beat Tanzania 3-1 in Kampala to book a
place in South Africa.

The Cranes, who appeared at the 2011
CHAN in Sudan, qualified 4-1 on aggregate
after their 1-0 away win in Dar-es-salaam
on July 13.
