Nigerian striker Peter Utaka says he
snubbed several offers from Europe to pen
a two-and-half year deal with Chinese
Super League side Beijing Guoan.
The 29-year-old joined Beijing Guoan from
another Chinese side Dalian Aerbin and was
unveiled
on June 9 by the Chinese giants
after passing a medical.
Utaka spent the 2012/13 season with
Dalian Aerbin, scoring 27 goals in 43 games
but
he said he decided to remain in the
Asian country because of the love shown
him by the fans.
"You don't move for money alone because
money can't buy you happiness. I decided
to stay in China and make a move to
Beijing (Gouan) because I am wanted and
loved by the Chinese fans; they have
shown me love," the former OB Odense of
Denmark striker said.
"I had offers from European clubs but I am
enjoying life in China and that is why I
decided to join a big club here (China) like
Beijing. They are ambitious and highly
respected."
Utaka - then at Royal Antwerp - first came
to prominence in the 2007/08 season
when he emerged as the highest goal
scorer in the Belgian Second Division with
22 goals in 34 games.
He was also top scorer in the Denmark
topflight in the 2009/10 with 18 goals in
33 games while playing for Odense.
