Veteran Journalist,Odunewu dies at 85

One of Nigerian foremost journalists, Alhaji
Alade Odunewu, died in Lagos on Thursday
at the age of 85.
Popularly known as Allah-Dey, the veteran
journalist died after a long battle with what
some described as an age-related sickness.

A family source, who craved anonymity,
said, "He died this afternoon and will be
buried tomorrow according to Islamic
rites."

It was learnt that the former Chairman,
Board of Trustees, Nigerian Media Merit
Awards and renowned columnist, was in
the hospital for about a month.

Alade, a former Chairman of the Nigerian
Press Council, died at St. Nicholas Hospital,
Lagos, on Thursday while he is scheduled
to be buried in Lagos Island on Friday
(today).

Winners Take All, a collection of his writings
in
his rested column in Daily Times, Allah-
Dey, was re-presented when he celebrated
his 80th birthday in November, 2007.
The late Alade, who joined Daily Times in
1950, rose to the post of Group
Publications Controller in 1979.
