A 25-year-old woman, Blessing Omaye, has
been arraigned before a Yaba Magistrate's
Court for allegedly stealing a two-year-old
child, Daniel Iwaleyin, from his parents.
Omaye was said to have "fraudulently
stolen the child" in June 2013 at Mojoyinola
Street, Bariga, Lagos.
The charge read, "That you, Blessing
Omaye,f, on June 12, 2013 at 5.15pm at No.
2,
Mojoyinola Street, Bariga in the Lagos
Magisterial District did forcibly and
fraudulently take away, detain, and steal
one Daniel Iwaleyin,m, age 2 years from
the possession of his parent and thereby
committed an offence punishable under
section 275(1)(a)(b) of the Criminal Laws of
Lagos state Nigeria, 2011."
When the charge was read to her, the
accused pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel pleaded that she be
granted bail in liberal terms.
The magistrate, Mrs. S.K Matepo, granted
Omaye bail in the sum of N50,000 with
two sureties in like sum who should be
relations of the accused.
