Fayemi:says no grudge against critics

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State says
his administration will not begrudge critics
and politicians vying for the governorship
position in the 2014 election in the state.

Fayemi also urged members of the
Academic Staff Union of Universities, Ekiti
State University chapter, Ado Ekiti, to take
their misgivings on taxation to the Tax
Tribunal, rather than resorting to industrial
action.

The governor spoke in Ado Ekiti, the state
capital, on Saturday during the August
edition of a media interaction, tagged,
'Meet Your Governor.'

Alluding to the clash that happened in Iyin
Ekiti on August 23 and 26, Fayemi said the
crisis was uncalled for.

He described a situation, where some
youths allowed themselves to be used as
willing tools in the hands of politicians, as
lamentable.

Fayemi said, "This clearly shows that our
youths have become willing tools in the
hands of politicians. It is evident that we
still have a long way to go. It is high time
we put an end to politics of bitterness.

"We have tried our best by setting up the
volunteer corps, Ekiti State Traffic
Management Agency and Ekiti State Peace
Corps to engage our youths. However, we
still find among them those who do not
take advantage of the opportunities."

"We should engage in issue-based politics.
The present administration in the state will
not begrudge anybody or group of people.

We urge politicians to present their
manifestos to the public, rather than
whipping up sentiment and engaging in
violence in the name of politics."

Urging stakeholders to support his
administration, he said, "This government
will not relent in its efforts to put proper
security measures in place to forestall
crises.
Meanwhile, the government also identified
lack of continuity in policies, the poor
sense of focus and jinxed perception as
some of the reasons the state's
development had remained slow in the
past 16 years of its existence.

The Senior Special Adviser to the Governor
on Religious Matters, Adeola Alofe, stated
this while addressing journalists at the new
Governor's Office, Ado Ekiti, on Friday.
He said the current initiative of the
administration in the state had started
yielding fruits.
