Journalist Dies In An Auto Crash

A correspondent of the News Agency of
Nigeria in Kwara State, Mr. Olushola
Owolabi, has died in an auto crash.
He died on Sunday night after the car he
was driving had an accident along Offa
Garage Road, Ilorin.
Our correspondent gathered on Monday
that the car, a metallic Blue Honda 'Bulldog'
Wagon, somersaulted many times after a
tyre burst.

Owolabi, an indigene of Ogbomoso in Oyo
State, was rushed to two private hospitals
in Ilorin for treatment by some Good
Samaritans.
The victim was however rejected by the
hospitals due to the severity of the injuries
he sustained.

He was later taken to the University of
Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where he died at
the hospital's emergency unit.
Until his death, the deceased was the
Assistant Secretary, Nigeria Union of
Journalists, Kwara State Correspondents'
Chapel.

He is survived by his wife, three children
and aged parents. His father, Pa. Sam
Ojelabi, was a former State Secretary of the
Council of NUJ and an active member of the
National
League of Veteran Journalists,
Kwara State branch.
He was interred after a service at Ona
Igbala Baptist Church, opposite Aviation
College, Ilorin.

The Kwara State Council of NUJ in a
statement by its Chairman, Mr. Biodun
Abdulkareem and Secretary, Mr. Bisi
Adedayo, as well the state's
Correspondents' chapel's Chairman and
Secretary, Mr. Layi Olanrewaju and Mr. Biola
Azeez respectively, said Owolabi's untimely
demise was shocking and heart-breaking.

It described the deceased as a humane,
gentle, industrious, generous journalist and
an active member of the union who
contributed immensely to the growth of
the union.
