Three Arraigned For Attempted Abduction

Three men have been arraigned at the
Ikeja Magistrate's Court, Lagos, for
attempted kidnap.

The men- Olasunkanmi, 20, Dolapo Olowu,
38, and Adeniyi Ochiko, 33- were arraigned
on
four counts of conspiracy, intimidation,
threat to life and attempted kidnap.
They were accused of attempting to
kidnap one Mrs. Abosede Owolabi, her
husband and son.

PUNCH Metro on Monday published how
the men also resorted to blackmailing the
family and demanding N5m before their
arrest.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Okoi, told
the court that on June 20, 2013, at about
7.20pm, the defendants called Owolabi and
threatened they would kill her and her
family unless she paid the sum of N5.5m
into various bank accounts.

The charge read: "That you Are-Ago
Olasunkanmi, Dolapo Olowu and Adeniyi
Ochiko at Ikotun Egbe, Lagos, did call one
Mrs Abosede Owolabi and intimidated her
to put fear in her with threat to kidnap her,
her son and husband unless she paid the
sum of N5.5m into GTBank account number
O112679304,
UBA account number
2036401185 and First Bank account
number 3048474310 and thereby
committed offence contrary to Section
402(a) of Criminal Law of Lagos State of
Nigeria, 2011."

Okoi presented the investigating police
officer, Cpl Adegbenle Sumbo, as a witness
to the alleged crimes.

The presiding magistrate, Ms. Dan Oni, did
not take the pleas of the defendants. She
adjourned the case till August 12, 2013
pending the Director of Public
Prosecution's advice.
