Dolphins Resumes Training For Continental

Nigeria's model basketball team, Dolphins,
have returned to full training as the
countdown to the African clubs qualifying
playoffs continues. The PUNCH check on
the team proved that the ladies resumed
their preparations on Monday at their
modern private sports hall located in Ikeja,

Lagos.
The coach of the team, Ochuko, told our
correspondent that the tempo of the daily
workouts would increase as the days draw
by.
She said, "We trained twice on the first day
of resumption which was Monday but we
had just one workout the following day.

The number of times we train now will
depend on other programmes we have.
But we will become definite on the number
when we are sure of the date for the
competition.

"The greatest challenge we have now is
that there's no definite date yet for the
competition. All we know for now is that it
is holding in October but whether 1st or
30th we don't know yet. And that's not
good enough because it has made
planning very difficult. Apart from
conditioning our bodies very well working
with the proper date, it has even made
planning for the trip itself also very
tasking. You can't arrange for flight or
hotel without the definite dates."

Dolphins got the ticket to represent Nigeria
when they finished second behind
Deepwater in the Nigerian women's league
in the closed season. Dolphins who are on
the continent for the third time are hopeful
of making real impact.

"So far it's been good. We have nearly
everyone together in camp now except for
about three players who certainly cannot
join us now because of their academic
programmes and other programmes. But
we are doing good," Ochuko said.
