In a marked departure from the past, two
corporate matches will headline the
opening ceremonies of the 2013 Nigeria
Bankers Games as Diamond Bank takes on
Huawei, the Chinese telecom equipment
vendors while Guinness and Nestle engage
in the second friendly game.
These matches will open the day for the
real competitive action between cup
holders Skye Bank and Mainstreet Bank at
the Onikan Stadium in Lagos.
The Nigeria Bankers Games is reputed as
the biggest and longest running corporate
tournament in the country and dates back
to 2001 when the competition was
instituted as Mibwala/Alamutu Memorial
Competition, in memory of two bankers
who died in that year's Kenya Airways
crash. It has since grown from just football
tournament to include competitions in
athletics, table tennis, scrabble, chess and
droughts. With the exception of football, all
other competitions are for male and female
bankers.
The Managing Director of MediaVision
Limited, Fela Bank-Olemoh, said "We are
committed to making the games bigger
and bigger to continuously excite not just
the fans but the athletes and their
organisations."
