MY PLAN FOR NOLLYWOOD-URANTA

Nollywood starlet, Mary Uranta, sheds light
on decision to set up a movie production
house in Lagos in this interview with
JAYNE AUGOYE
As more actors continue to delve into other
fields, some others are also doubling up
within the sector. One of such is Nollywood
actress,
Mary Uranta, who is already
dreaming big, having recently launched
50th Academy Production House in Lagos.

For the River State University of Science
and Technology, Secretarial Studies
graduate, the idea to invest in movie
production by opening a state-of-the-art
studio is also her own of giving back to the
industry.

"I just decided to do something for myself
and because of the love I have for the
industry. I thought I should do something
to promote myself, others and generally be
of assistance to people. We are actually
strategising on how to start operations. We
are thinking of going into big productions,
collaborating with people, with film houses
abroad to bring them into Nigeria to teach
us and do some others. It is well equipped
and has any equipment you can think of
for movie post production and music
video. So, when I am not using the
equipment, I will give them out for hire,
and I planning on going into movie
production."

And so armed with a certificate in acting
from the London School of Arts, Uranta,
says she plans on testing the waters by
hitting the screen with a totally different
kind of movie.
"I have a family-oriented movie, and will
be hitting the location very soon. It is a
very beautiful and well told story which
will be launched before December. Totally
different from the typical Nollywood
stories you have around. Then we will hit
the cinema immediately after the launch. I
promise you it will be different from the
norm as I am working some of the best
hands in the industry.
She notes that she has a foundation called
The Mary Uranta Foundation, targeted at
the less privileged children of Opobo, in
Rivers State.
Her words, "This entails basically paying
their tuition, clothing and feeding them
from time to time. Although I still look out
for some of these children in Lagos State
where I currently live, I will be going out in
full force in Port Harcourt very soon.
