Sweden Draw is a set back to Eaglets: coach Garba

Coach Manu Garba has described yesterday’s 3-3
draw with Sweden at the FIFA U-17 World Cup as a
great setback to the Golden Eaglets. Eaglets came back from a two-goal deficit to force
the Scandinavians to a thrilling draw at the Kalifa
Bin Zayed Stadium to stay top of the group, with
four points, same with the Swedes but they have a
superior goal advantage heading into Friday’s final
group game against Iraq in Dubai. Speaking to reporters after the game, the former
Flying Eagles star said that loss of concentration by
his defenders was responsible for the goals scored
by the Swedes, adding further that the outcome
could have been different had his choice and top
striker Success Isaac played full time. “It was a great setback to us because we came to
win but in football, funny things happen at times. Compared to our last match against Mexico, where
they boys scored 100 percent, in this match, I give
them 60 percent. All the three goals were as a result
of loss of concentration, which was the least that I
expected. “We knew that the Scandinavians played direct
football but our players were slow in their timing to
defend, which was our major problem. Sweden were technically balanced, they sat back
and allowed us to create all the chances but we
could not take them. If Success were around, the
story could have been different but on the whole,
the boys still fought back and gave a good account
of themselves by ensuring that we did not lose”, added Garba
